100,000 Views-- Leotard & Tights Giveaway!

Hi everyone!

I've been slowly watching the views on this blog rise over the last two years, and I've always planned on doing a giveaway once I hit 100k.  Well, 100k happened almost 8k hits ago... life got a little weird and I stopped paying attention.

Anyway, I've had 100,000+ independent views on this blog.  I find this completely ridiculous and amazing all at the same time.  I can't thank you enough for reading and commenting on my ramblings.  Returning to ballet and dance as an adult is a scary thing, but as so many of us know-- SO rewarding!

One of the hardest parts of returning to dance was finding the courage to stuff myself into a leotard and tights.  I was *this* close to trying something else just so I didn't have to experience the humiliation I perceived I'd be suffering.  I really couldn't be more wrong about the whole thing.

As a thanks, I'd like to run a leotard & tights giveaway.   It's just about two years ago now that I took the plunge and bought my leo & tights for my remedial ballet class.  I wish there had been more stylish options available locally when I purchased mine, so I wanted to offer a few different styles from discountdance.com to choose from.  No catches really, I won't force you to "like" anything in order to enter your name for a chance to win.  I just want to hear your story!

I'll purchase the attire through the Discount Dance website, and have them shipped directly to you from the DD warehouse.  Unfortunately for my international readers, I think this giveaway will need to stay within the USA, unless you can point me towards a dancewear company in your country similar to DD.

I'll allow the winner to choose any 1 leotard up to $32 (or two basic leos that add up to $32 or less), plus a pair of tights in the style/color of your choice to get you ready for the upcoming class season-- not to exceed $50 USD before shipping.  Here are some of the ones I've been drooling over on the DD website:

$28.30 HERE
$29.95 HERE

$23 HERE
$30.95 HERE

$30.60 HERE

There are lots of other awesome choices other than these, but these are just a few of my favorites.  :)

Here's the only catch-- I want to hear your story.  Tell me your story in the comments, or email it to lindsay@pointeperfect.com, don't forget to include a way to contact you by email or text, so I can let you know if you've won!  I'll pick a winner on Friday, August 22nd and order your leo & tights as soon as I receive a shipping address from you.  I swear on my life that I won't share your address or contact info.

Here's what I want to know about you as your "entry":

1.  Have you always danced, are you a late starter, remedial ballerina or are you considering starting?
2.  What was the scariest part of going back to the barre?
3.  What has been the most rewarding?
4.  What styles of dance do you take?
5.  What do you wish you had time to take?
6.  What is your greatest strength in class?
7.  What is your greatest weakness?
8.  What are your goals for the upcoming dance season?
9.  Anything else you'd like to share?

Please feel free to share with anyone you think might want to participate.  Thanks again for reading and following my journey as a remedial ballerina.  It's been fun!

  1. Congratulations on reaching this milestone! You have such an interesting blog, I love reading it
Sadly, I live in France (well, that's not so sad) but I wanted to congratulate you and answer the questions anyway (I think I never posted here, it's time to fix this).

    1. Have you always danced, are you a late starter, remedial ballerina or are you considering starting? I'm an adult beginner (started at 21)
    2. What was the scariest part of going back to the barre? I didn't feel so scared but I definitely felt like a fool
    3. What has been the most rewarding? The best thing was discovering how good I feel when I dance
    4. What styles of dance do you take? Only ballet (but I took 7 to 8 classes a week last season)
    5. What do you wish you had time to take? Contemporary but there is still so much I need to learn about ballet and I don't like the style of the teacher for the beginners at my studio
    6. What is your greatest strength in class? I'm really focused
    7. What is your greatest weakness? Turnout and I need to work on my posture
    8. What are your goals for the upcoming dance season? I want to improve literally everything: fluidity, posture, musicality, turnout, learn about how the body works, jumps, pirouettes, overall flexibility...
    9. Anything else you'd like to share? Enjoy your dance journey!

  2. Hi! I recently found your blog, the pointe shoe information is very helpful.
    1. Have you always danced, are you a late starter, remedial ballerina or are you considering starting? I started ballet as an adult, I never had the opportunity to dance as a child. I love it. It just makes me so happy.
    2. What was the scariest part of going back to the barre? Starting was scary, I did not have anyone who would go with me. With no experience it was so intimidating!
    3. What has been the most rewarding?
    4. What styles of dance do you take?
    5. What do you wish you had time to take? I would love to take belly dancing and bollywood dancing. Not so fond of tap or modern.
    6. What is your greatest strength in class? I think my greatest strength is my stubborness! I had a very traumatic accident after my first 6 months of ballet in 2012. I broke my left leg in two places and was in a wheelchair for six months. I thought I might never dance again. But I just pushed and pushed myself in PT and would not quit. It has been a long road but I feel like I am finally almost back to where I was after my initial six months.
    7. What is your greatest weakness? I am so self conscious! I worry so much about my dancing and what others might be thinking. Most of the other students in class danced as children and seem so much more comfortable.
    8. What are your goals for the upcoming dance season? I want to really strengthen my feet, learn to spot and be able to do single pirouettes. Eventually I will do pointe! See this is where my stubborness is so helpful. I just do not give up!
    9. Anything else you'd like to share? It is never too late to try something new. Just be brave and jump in!

  3. I looove your blog. Endless inspiration. Your blog really helped me feel more brave about tackling ballet again. Thank you so much. :)

    1. Have you always danced, are you a late starter, remedial ballerina or are you considering starting? I am a remedial ballerina. :)
    2. What was the scariest part of going back to the barre? I was afraid I would not remember anything.
    3. What has been the most rewarding? Seeing progress. That feeling when I am in the flow of the movement. Nothing like it.
    4. What styles of dance do you take? Ballet
    5. What do you wish you had time to take? Oy. Everything! I love Contemporary. I am horrible at Hip Hop would love to conquer that. Tap too!
    6. What is your greatest strength in class? I pick up combinations much faster than I thought I could!
    7. What is your greatest weakness? Comparing and despairing.
    8. What are your goals for the upcoming dance season? To go on pointe, strengthen my legs and improve my flexibility.
    9. Anything else you'd like to share?

I was a child when I saw The Nutcracker for the 1st time. I was mesmerized. I would dance in the living room to the The Nutcracker music. I thought I was flying. I eventually took ballet but stopped before I could go on pointe which was my dream. I recently gained some weight and tried going to the gym. No bueno! I went once a week at the most. I knew I needed movement in my life to be healthy. I finally asked my self - What did I love doing as a child?Well, I loved ballet the most with horse riding a close second. :) I was going to wait until I lost enough weight to start classes . But... I always did that! I would make up excuses not to do things I loved or that scared me. Ballet did both. With encouragement from loved ones I decided to face my fears and start class. It has been a wonderful experience so far! The joy I have experienced in class dancing and being inspired by the other dancers has brought me to tears. I was even more elated to find out I could practice pointe at my age! Yes, you can follow your dreams at any age. I even read about a woman who started learning ballet in her 40's and performed t he Dying Swan on POINTE in her late 60's! If anyone is sitting on the fence about starting a ballet practice just go for it! You will not regret it!
